Last Blog

Today in human geography we took the world leaders test. So far, I know I've gotten three wrong. As for the rest of the test, I think I got the rest of them right. This is my last blog I will be doing for this class. I thoroughly enjoyed human geography this semester and really enjoyed having Mr. Schick as my teacher. I feel like I learned a lot and I've actually taken an interest in the subject. I am sad that I am leaving the class, but I am looking forward to the new things I am going to learn next semester!

Notes on World Leaders pt. II

Today in human geography, we took more notes on world leaders. First, we took notes on Syrian leader Bashar al Assad. Assad took over after his brother who was groomed to be the heir died in a car crash. He is regarded as a cruel and heartless leader, as he bombed Arab Spring protesters (literally his own people) which led to a Syrian Civil War. The Syrian Opposition- the U.S, Canada, the EU, and the majority of the Arab League has called for his resignation. During the Syrian Civil War, United Nations human rights chief found evidence to implicate Assad in war crimes and crimes against humanity. Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada, is one of the youngest prime ministers. An activist from a young age, he defended Native American rights by opposing the construction of a zinc mine would have poisoned the Nahanni River in North Western territory. He also welcomed Syrian refugees at the Toronto airport with warm clothes and welcoming words. Benjamin Netanyahu, leader of Israel, ad

Today in human geography we took notes on different world leaders. First was Enrique Peña Nieto, the leader of Mexico. He has low approval ratings, and is known as a “Teflon candidate” because nothing sticks to him. It is believed he had his wife killed so he could marry another woman. Xi Jinping, leader of China, is the son of a veteran who was a founder of the Chinese Communist party. Xi is married to folksinger Peng Lijuang, who is an army general. Narendra Modi, the leader of India, came from the lowest of classes in the caste system India has. He has a masters in political science and has an inspiring rags to riches story. The leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is known as a heartless, ruthless and ambitious leader, having served in the KGB. Putin also has been known to eliminate opponents threatening his leadership. Political Geography Project

Today we spent class working on our project.

Political Geography

Today in human geography we talked about Political Geography. The world is organized by country, nation and state. A country is an identifiable land area and a nation is a population(group of people) with a common culture. A state is a population under a single government. This term can be synonymous with country. Nation as a status means a group of people with a shared identity, like a culture group. Nations are groups of people larger then a single tribe or community, which may share a common language, institutions, religion, and or historical experience. An independent, state has space or territory which had internationally recognized boundaries, has people who live there on an ongoing basis, has economic activity, an organized economy which regulates foreign and domestic trade and issues money, and has power in social engineering such as education.

Happy birthday Mr. Schick !!

Today in human geogrpahy we ate food. We had a pink and blue population pyramid cake for Mr. Schicks birthday. Also cookies that Mr. Schick brought it which was pretty cool. People were dancing to christmas music in the corner for some reason, which was kinda funny. We got to hear the incredible story of Mr. Schicks birth and how he was almost born in a manger like jesus. It was actually a fun class, and really nice right before the weekend.

Exam Notes

Exam Notes: Human Geography is the branch of Geography that deals with the study of people and their communities, cultures, economies, and interactions with the environment by studying their relations with and across Human geography focuses on space and place, how people make places, how we organize space and society, how we interact with each other, how we make sense of ourselves and others. A map is a scale model of the real world, made small enough to work with on a desk or computer. It can be a hasty here’s-how to-get-to-the-party sketch, an elaborate work of art, or a precise computer-generated product. A map serves two purposes: It is a tool for storing reference material and a tool for communicating geographic information . As a communications tool,  a map is often the best means for depicting the distribution of human activities or physical features, as well as for thinking about reasons underlying a certain characteristic or feature .
