Notes on World Leaders pt. II

Today in human geography, we took more notes on world leaders. First, we took notes on Syrian leader Bashar al Assad. Assad took over after his brother who was groomed to be the heir died in a car crash. He is regarded as a cruel and heartless leader, as he bombed Arab Spring protesters (literally his own people) which led to a Syrian Civil War. The Syrian Opposition- the U.S, Canada, the EU, and the majority of the Arab League has called for his resignation. During the Syrian Civil War, United Nations human rights chief found evidence to implicate Assad in war crimes and crimes against humanity. Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada, is one of the youngest prime ministers. An activist from a young age, he defended Native American rights by opposing the construction of a zinc mine would have poisoned the Nahanni River in North Western territory. He also welcomed Syrian refugees at the Toronto airport with warm clothes and welcoming words. Benjamin Netanyahu, leader of Israel, advocates international cooperation against terrorism. In fact, he has armed guards on planes entering and exiting Israel. He is a strong leader, ready to combat anybody. The president of the United States Donald Trump is a businessman, billionaire, author, celebrity, and politician. He is the 248th wealthiest person on Earth, and has an estimated worth of 3.1 billion dollars. The leader of Kenya, Uhura Kenyatta was re elected a 2nd term by 54% of the popular vote. Opponent Raila Odinga claimed it was rigged and got a re election. However, Odinga knew it was going to be fixed a second time as well so he told his followers not to vote. This resulted in riots in the streets and many people killed. The re election votes were 98.3% for Kenyatta, 1% for Odinga, and .3% for other. Moon Jai-in, the leader of South Korea, was a student activist, human rights lawyer and a chief presidential secretary. His parents were refugees from North Korea. Finally. the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-Un, is regarded as a cruel and heartless leader. His half brother Kim Jong Nam tried to enter Japan using a fake passport to get to Tokyo's Disneyland, so Kim had him killed. Jang Song-thaek, Kim's uncle, was executed fr treachery. Kim also had all members of his family executed. Osang-hon, deputy security minster was executed with a flamethrower because he supported Jan Song-thaek.
