Countries

Today in human geography we worked on our maps we had previously worked on. Towards the end of class, Mr. Schick asked us to find one interesting fact about a country of our choosing. I chose Japan, and I found some pretty interesting stuff. Japan's national anthem, "Kimigayo" (The Emperor's Reign) is the oldest anthem lyrics in the world, dating to the 10th century or earlier. It was the unofficial anthem since 1883 and it was adopted in 1999. Also there is some opposition to the anthem, because of its association with worship of the emperor and militarism. This kind of reminds me of the problems we have in America today. Is it hate or history? It's interesting that other countries have some similar cultural problems as America.

Today in human geography we took the world leaders test. So far, I know I've gotten three wrong. As for the rest of the test, I think I got the rest of them right. This is my last blog I will be doing for this class. I thoroughly enjoyed human geography this semester and really enjoyed having Mr. Schick as my teacher. I feel like I learned a lot and I've actually taken an interest in the subject. I am sad that I am leaving the class, but I am looking forward to the new things I am going to learn next semester!

Today in human geography we took notes on different world leaders. First was Enrique Peña Nieto, the leader of Mexico. He has low approval ratings, and is known as a “Teflon candidate” because nothing sticks to him. It is believed he had his wife killed so he could marry another woman. Xi Jinping, leader of China, is the son of a veteran who was a founder of the Chinese Communist party. Xi is married to folksinger Peng Lijuang, who is an army general. Narendra Modi, the leader of India, came from the lowest of classes in the caste system India has. He has a masters in political science and has an inspiring rags to riches story. The leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is known as a heartless, ruthless and ambitious leader, having served in the KGB. Putin also has been known to eliminate opponents threatening his leadership.
