Today in human geography we didn't really do much. Most people were finishing the assignment. We didn't discuss anything either. Overall I didn't learn anything. However, Mr. Schick presented a new idea for the uniform. Both guys and girls would wear a flight suit type thing and for each club you were in you'd get a patch like in Boy Scouts. I think this is a pretty good idea considering the unfairness of the uniform. Also I think we would all look pretty awesome.

A message to Garcia/5 point plan

My interpretation of A Message to Garcia is that hard workers are rare, valuable and great people. Also that people who are lazy do not get very far in life. Elbert Hubbard used the example of someone working in an office, and they asked one of their workers to look something up in an encyclopedia. But the worker complains and tries to get out of doing the job. This is Hubbard's way of saying how many people try to get out of doing a job or try to put as least effort as possible while doing it. Hubbard also made a point of how there is a constant process of weeding out in all jobs. The incompetent and lazy get fired. He uses the example of a worker that he describes as extremely lazy and very stupid getting fired and looking for work, even though no one would hire him. Demographic Transition

Today in human geography we discussed the Demographic Transition. Demographic Transition is the transition from high birth rates and high death rates to lower birth rates and death rates as a country or region from a pre industrialized economic system. The theory is fairly new, published in 1929 by demographer Warren Thompson. Thompson formed this theory by observing birth and death rates in industrialized societies over the past 200 years. There are 5 stages to the Demographic Transitions Model. Stage 1 would be a pre industrial economy, stage 2 and 3 are developmental stages, to 4 and 5 which are both post industrial stages. Developing countries like Pakistan or Yemen rely on core countries that are more developed and industrialized. Core countries are recognized as wealthy nations with a large number of advantages like a favorable location, strong state institutions, a powerful military, and powerful global political alliances. An example of this would be the United States.
