Demographic Transitions Model

In human geography we talked about the demographic transitions model. The demographic transitions model describes population change over time. It is used to model birth and death rates. In the second half of class we talked about Hitler and how effective of a leader he was. Also how he manipulated the fear and hate of the people to get what he wanted. He created a scapegoat for the people to blame and hate and empowered the people by telling them they were the master race. This is why he achieved so much and almost conquered Europe.

Today in human geography we took the world leaders test. So far, I know I've gotten three wrong. As for the rest of the test, I think I got the rest of them right. This is my last blog I will be doing for this class. I thoroughly enjoyed human geography this semester and really enjoyed having Mr. Schick as my teacher. I feel like I learned a lot and I've actually taken an interest in the subject. I am sad that I am leaving the class, but I am looking forward to the new things I am going to learn next semester!

Political Geography

Today in human geography we talked about Political Geography. The world is organized by country, nation and state. A country is an identifiable land area and a nation is a population(group of people) with a common culture. A state is a population under a single government. This term can be synonymous with country. Nation as a status means a group of people with a shared identity, like a culture group. Nations are groups of people larger then a single tribe or community, which may share a common language, institutions, religion, and or historical experience. An independent, state has space or territory which had internationally recognized boundaries, has people who live there on an ongoing basis, has economic activity, an organized economy which regulates foreign and domestic trade and issues money, and has power in social engineering such as education.

Notes on World Leaders

Today in human geography we took notes on different world leaders. First was Enrique Peña Nieto, the leader of Mexico. He has low approval ratings, and is known as a “Teflon candidate” because nothing sticks to him. It is believed he had his wife killed so he could marry another woman. Xi Jinping, leader of China, is the son of a veteran who was a founder of the Chinese Communist party. Xi is married to folksinger Peng Lijuang, who is an army general. Narendra Modi, the leader of India, came from the lowest of classes in the caste system India has. He has a masters in political science and has an inspiring rags to riches story. The leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is known as a heartless, ruthless and ambitious leader, having served in the KGB. Putin also has been known to eliminate opponents threatening his leadership.
